Located in the Learning Resource Center (SSW 1.218), the Learning Lab is a space where BSW students can work individually or alongside others to complete assignments.

During peak weeks of the semester, the Learning Lab is staffed with faculty, staff, and graduate assistants who can offer support as they work alongside you (they have deadlines, too).

What you can expect:

  • A quiet space to study located close to social work classes
  • Snacks, coffee, and tea
  • Faculty, staff, and graduate assistants available to answer questions!

Need help with statistics? Drop by the Learning Lab to have your quantitative questions answered! Tuesdays, 2 – 3 PM and Wednesdays, 3 – 4 PM.

Have quick question? Visit us during virtual or in-person walk-in advising hours. Please note: Prospective internal transfer students must attend an internal transfer information session before they are able to meet with a BSW advisor. Newly admitted students should attend new student orientation before they are able to meet with a BSW advisor.

Please email the BSW Programs Team at BSWadvising@austin.utexas.eduif you have any questions. Include your UT EID in all emails sent to the BSW Programs Team.

Can’t make it to walk-in hours? Schedule a general or long-term planning appointment with a BSW advisor.

Helpful tips

  • Check prerequisites by clicking on the unique number (blue 5-digit # on course schedule). If you register for a class and don’t meet the prerequisites—you may be dropped eventually.
  • Social work course waitlists will be activated as soon as a class fills up. Classes listed as “closed” on the course schedule have full online waitlists. You cannot get permission from the instructor to add a social work class listed as “waitlisted” or “closed.” Contact the BSW Programs Team if you have questions.

If you are…

A student changing their major outside of social work
A student entering field
  • You are required to schedule a registration advising appointment with the BSW Program Team.
  • During your appointment, we will go over a degree check to make sure all requirements are met and you are on your way to graduation.
