Celebrations started Friday, May 17, with a barbecue on the front lawn of the School co-hosted by the Social Work Alumni Network (SWAN). Over 350 graduates, family, friends, faculty and staff attended the barbecue.
The School’s convocation for Commencement 2013 was held Saturday morning, May 18, at the The University of Texas at Austin Performing Arts Center.
Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Programs Vicki Y. Packheiser, Assistant Dean for Master’s Programs Jane Kretzschmar, and Assistant Dean for Doctoral Programs James Schwab recognized the candidates for, respectively, the Bachelor of Social Work degree, the Master of Science in Social Work degree, and the doctoral degree in Social Work.
Katherine M. Waters, BSW ’13, and Amy Lynn E. Jones, MSSW ’13, held the honor of Class Speakers for the ceremony.
Nancy Walker, MSSW’ 99, received the Field Instructor of the Year Award.
The ceremony concluded with faculty, students, friends and family joining in “The Eyes of Texas.”
Later that evening, social work students were among the thousands who participated in the University-wide Commencement ceremony held at the Tower, the heart of the university’s historic campus.
