DCC Career Exploration Series - Social Work & Sports

Ashley Harmon, Licensed Clinical Social Worker Supervisor and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, is the Director of Clinical Behavioral Health at The University of Texas at Austin Intercollegiate Athletics. She was hired seven years ago in an effort to build an adequate mental health program for the athletes. She provides clinical services to student athletes, as well as, oversees all clinical treatment of student athletes. She is responsible for triaging with other medical staff, community partners and contracted therapists and psychiatrists.
Whitney A. Jackson, MSW joined Warrick Dunn Charities in July of 2018 as Executive Director. Ms. Jackson has twenty years of nonprofit management and social services experience and is passionate about improving the quality of life for children and families. Over the course of her career, Ms. Jackson has had the privilege of impacting youth in both Pennsylvania and North Carolina through organizations such as the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania, Big Brothers Big Sisters Southeastern Pennsylvania, the Council for Children’s Rights, the YMCA of Greater Charlotte, The New Teacher Project (TNTP), and most recently served as the Executive Director of the Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs of Gaston County.
Mesha Jefferson is a recent MSSW graduate from UT Austin. She attended her undergrad at UT Austin for Social Work while competing as a rowing athlete. She continues to row at a local club and has been coaching for the past 6 years. She is passionate about bringing the ethics and social justice conversations to athletic spaces.
Suzanne Potts, LMSW, MPH is the Chief Wellbeing Officer at Athletes for Hope (AFH) and an Assistant Professor of Instruction at the University of Texas, Austin Steve Hicks School of Social Work. With AFH, Suzanne oversees the Whole Being Athlete Mental Health and the AFH University programs, educating and connecting professional, Olympic, Paralympic and student-athletes to charitable opportunities across various communities.
