Statement on P4P’s National Week of Action

Today, some of our students will take part in a National Week of Action in support of the work of FED UP Coalition and P4P, organizations advocating for students to receive stipends for completing required field placements (internships). This action includes a walkout of classes to attend a rally.

Advocacy is essential for creating change. As social work educators, we support constructive advocacy that aligns with social work values and ethics.

We also recognize the financial stress many of our students face, especially as the cost of living in Austin continues to rise, and we work diligently to raise funds for scholarships that reduce their financial burdens.

Our commitment to students and their thriving is unwavering.

This year, we have secured more financial support for our students in the form of scholarships, grants tied to faculty-led programs, and a Student Support Fund, among other resources.

Open dialogue with our students has contributed to our success. We look forward to expanding these conversations so that all our student voices may be heard.
