This past summer social work student Lindsay Morris was in Nicaragua with Projects with Underserved Communities (PUC), a collaboration between UT International Office, Cockrell School of Engineering, and the School of Social Work. Morris was part of a team that worked with Manna Project International to build a functioning public bathroom with a flush toilet for a community clinic in Managua.
Next summer, another PUC team of engineering and social work students will be back in Managua to design and build a system of handicap ramps, sidewalks, and drainage for El Farito community center and clinic. This system will increase accessibility and improve the health, safety, and overall infrastructure of El Farito.
