Allan Cole, dean of UT Social Work, recently spoke at the Life Sciences and Healthcare Innovation Summit, where he was on a panel entitled “The Role of Humanities in Innovation” with UT President Jim Davis and Provost Will Inboden.
The summit, hosted UT and Breyer Capital, took place on March 3. The Innovation Summit brings together “leaders from industry and academia to showcase the breakthroughs that will shape the future of healthcare and life sciences.”

During his panel with Davis and Inboden, Cole reflected on the invaluable role of the humanities in both social work and medical education.
Additional presenters at the Summit included speakers like Claudia Lucchinetti, MD, dean of Dell Medical School and Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs at UT; and John Whyte, MD, who is CEO of the American Medical Association, the nation’s largest physician organization.
