Andrea Montgomery, LMSW-AP, will be moving into a new role within the Steve Hicks School of Social Work (SHS), Director of Academic Initiatives.

“I am excited that she will be serving in a new role that will be student-facing, coordinate work done in several SHS units, and provide significant support to our incoming Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Dr. Rebecca Gomez, whose appointment begins next month,” said Dean Allan Cole. “I am excited to welcome Andrea to this new role. Her experience, skills, institutional knowledge, and wisdom will help strengthen what we offer students and advance our mission as a leading school of social work.”

Andrea graduated from SHS in 2002 with a MSSW degree and served SHS as Director of Admissions since 2004. As Director of Admissions, she coordinated and read a record number of applications, and developed and maintained general operating standards, practices, protocols, and policies for admission to our master’s program. She also coordinated the matching of students with assistantships, employment, and other financial opportunities, among other significant contributions to our school. In addition to her work at SHS, Andrea has been a social worker at Ascension Seton Family of Hospitals.

Dean Cole recognized and expressed his gratitude to the colleagues who served on the advisory committee for this search: Stacey Jordan (chair), Yolanda Padilla, Isaiah Jones, Sharon Brennan, and J.D. Moore.

Andrea’s new appointment begins on August 7, and the search for a new admissions director will begin promptly
