Andrea Montgomery, LMSW-AP, was named Director of Academic Initiatives in 2023, which serves in direct support of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.

With many years of experience practicing as a licensed social worker, Andrea brings professional expertise, skills, and knowledge of working with youth and families in the non-profit, private and health care settings. She has worked with minors who have been abused and neglected, adolescents, children of incarcerated parents, and those experiencing mental health crises in the medical setting.

She holds a certificate from the University of Texas Executive Management and Leadership Program and was awarded the President’s Outstanding Staff Award in 2022. She is also served as an active member of the teaching and curriculum subcommittee of the Diversity, Equity and Accessibility Committee and a mentor for students of color in the SHS graduate program. She earned her MSSW from Steve Hicks School of Social Work, at the University of Texas at Austin with a concentration in Administration and Planning and a BA in Psychology from Baylor University.

Prior to her appointment as Director of Academic Initiatives, Andrea guided and supported prospective students through the graduate admissions process as Director of Admissions at the Steve Hicks School of Social Work for nearly 20 years.

Her keen ability to maintain and cultivate admissions standards of the perennially top-ranked Steve Hicks School of Social Work is grounded in her expertise of university admission policies, CSWE academic standards and the social work profession. Andrea has devoted her career to maintaining the highest standards in graduate school admissions, while also curating inclusive, welcoming spaces for underrepresented populations within higher education.
