Enhance Your MSSW with a Specialized Certificate

The School of Social Work offers specialized certificate programs that complement the MSSW concentrations in Clinical Social Work and in Administration and Policy Practice. These certificates allow students to deepen their expertise in a focused area of practice, gain specialized skills, and receive mentoring from faculty experts. Early placement into a certificate program supports intentional academic planning, ensuring that coursework and practicum experiences are aligned with professional aspirations from the start of the program.

Available options include Health Care Social Work, Military Social Work Practice, School-Based Social Work Practice, Social Work Practice in Substance Use Disorders, and Social Work in Disability Studies. Each certificate program includes one required anchor course, a selection of elective and selective courses, 20 hours of professional development activities, and an approved practicum placement aligned with the certificate’s focus.

During the application process, applicants will be asked to rank their certificate program preferences. Upon admission, incoming students will receive certificate program information and be connected with the appropriate certificate program coordinator. Certificate program coordinators support each student’s educational and professional development goals through tailored mentorship and advising.

If you are currently enrolled in the MSSW program and are interested in pursuing a certificate, please complete the Certificate Program Application and submit it to the appropriate certificate coordinator.
