The inaugural session of Verses and Voices at UT Social Work marked a time of community building, collaborative conversation and creative songwriting.
Andy Langer, program director for the Moritz Center for Societal Impact, talked with clinical assistant professor Kcie (pronounced KAY-see) Driggers about practice, practicum and the joys of teaching a class she once attended. Driggers emphasized the importance of learning how to be in community and teaching students how to reflect their empathy as they work with clients and organizations
As they talked, UT Social Work artist-in-residence Travis Foster took notes and outlined a song, inspired by their discussion. Following the discussion, Travis shared notes with the audience as the group collaboratively built out an all new song based on Prof. Driggers and her lived experience.
A recorded version of the song can be viewed below. The next session convenes on Thursday, Oct. 2.
