Dean Luis Zayas and the Institute on Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault (IDVSA) Expert Witness Team are pleased to invite you to register for the workshop Building Capacity for Expert Witness in Immigration Cases.
This 2-day workshop will focus on preparing mental health professionals such as social workers, psychologists, and counselors to increase their capacity in the role of expert witness for immigration cases. The training will have a specific focus on immigrants who have experienced intimate partner violence and/or sexual assault and are part of mixed status families. Knowledge of any or all of the following is required: children and trauma, intimate partner violence and/or sexual assault. Spanish proficiency is encouraged, but not required.
This training workshop is provided at no cost to participants, however we are requesting that participants commit to working pro bono with a pro bono attorney on at least one case in the future. Social work and LPC CEUs are pending and will be available for $20. Additional information will be provided prior to the training.
This training will have limited seating and participants will be selected based on expertise, area of service, and history as an expert witness. To request registration, please complete this online form no later than COB October 1, 2015. The Expert Witness Team will send out confirmation emails the week of October 5th.
If you are interested in attending the training, but may not qualify as an expert witness, please consider volunteering as an alternative. Register here as a volunteer.
