This study explored the perceptions of Texas nursing home residents, their families, and nursing home administrators about what factors they believe contribute to quality of care. The purposes were to:
- (1) determine what residents, families, and administrators thought accounted for a “good home”;
- (2) further delineate the roles and functions of nursing home social workers and their relationship to quality and psychosocial care; and
- (3) develop curriculum (consistent with these findings) for social workers and students who will practice in nursing home settings.
Findings suggest that meeting psychosocial needs are paramount to a “good” nursing home environment. These include creating a homelike, nurturing and attentive environment.
