In partnership with the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), this project will inform and educate social workers about prenatal alcohol and other substance use through evidence-based methods and collaboration with leading medical organizations. Project activities will include promoting the use of screening and brief intervention (SBI) as a routine part of care; developing a national social work champions network to support SBI implementation and related clinical skills in healthcare settings; expanding community, state and local capacity to address prenatal substance use through existing healthcare partnerships; evaluating NASW membership knowledge and practices; and promoting science-based messaging, clinical guidelines, and continuing education resources.
