This project funded three 4-day continuing education institutes for practicing pharmacists, social workers, nurses, and faculty from these three disciplines. Ninety practitioners and 30 faculty members participated. The institutes provided neurobiological and psychosocial information about chemical abuse and dependency, educated professionals on how to use the information to help patients or clients recognize and address chemical abuse and dependence, and motivated educators to enhance training for health professionals on chemical abuse and dependence. A website will be available to participants for one year in order to provide a source of new information and a forum for asking questions and discussion. A research component is measuring knowledge gains and use of the information in practice and teaching.
