The theme of this conference, tentatively scheduled for June 2000, is advancing biopsychosocial knowledge in addictions. The conference will bring together some of the key social work researchers and educators in the field of chemical dependency along with researchers in the biological and psychological sciences. Papers will be commissioned that will help to bridge the gap between research and practice in order to advance an interdisciplinary perspective on ameliorating substance use disorders. Participants will discuss an agenda for future research and will develop mechanisms, such as working groups for advancing social work education, research, prevention, and treatment in the field of addictions. A monograph or special issue of a journal will be developed from conference papers.
