AUSTIN, Texas – Associate Professor of Social Work and African & African Diaspora Studies Dorie Gilbert, University of Texas at Austin, has received honorable mention in competition for the SAGE/CSWE Award for Innovative Teaching in Social Work Education.
Dr. Gilbert’s work extends to West Africa where she teaches an international social work course, Ghana: Social and Community Development. Gilbert also serves as the faculty liaison for students completing their final internships in Accra, Ghana.
The award’s purpose is to promote innovative teaching in social work by highlighting it as it emerges; recognizing the individuals who have played significant roles in bringing it about. The award is intended to recognize individuals, working alone or in concert, in social work or interdisciplinary and interprofessional settings. This new award is presented by SAGE, working in collaboration with the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
Gilbert was recognized for her innovative collaboration that partners School of Social Work students with Cockrell School of Engineering students at UT Austin in implementing international community development projects.
