CHOICES, a program developed and tested over the past 13 years by the team at the Health Behavior Research and Training Institute (HBRT) at the School of Social Work, has been included in the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA) National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices.
CHOICES: A program for women about choosing healthy behaviors, is a brief intervention designed to help women lower the risk of alcohol-exposed pregnancy by reducing reducing or stoping risky drinking, using effective contraception, or both. CHOICES consists of four brief motivational interviewing sessions with a counselor/interventionist, and one contraception counseling visit with a health care provider, over a 12-14 week period.
The HBRT team includes Drs. Mary Velasquez, Kirk von Sternberg, and Nanette Stephens.
