Dr. Lori Holleran Steiker has been selected as one of the Texas 10 by the Texas Exes, The University of Texas at Austin official alumni association. Nominated by alumni, the Texas 10 are ten professors selected as the best and most inspiring in the Forty Acres. Holleran Steiker is a University Distinguished Teaching Professor at the School of Social Work. She has worked in the field of addictions and recovery for over three decades. In addition to teaching courses on substance use disorders at the School of Social Work, Holleran Steiker teaches the Transformative Signature Course “Young People & Drugs,” and is also a faculty liaison for the Center for Students in Recovery and the Drug and Alcohol Peer Advisor group. Holleran Steiker helped found both organizations on the Forty Acres to help students confront issues with drug and alcohol misuse, intervention, and recovery. She is also one of the co-founders of University High School, Austin’s first recovery high school

This is the third year in a row that the Texas 10 include a professor from the School of Social Work. Dr. Barbara Jones was among the 2014 Texas 10, and Dr. Miguel Ferguson was among the 2013 Texas 10.
