Social work students interning at law clinics provide needed expertise for legal teams and advocate on behalf of clients
Erin Brown is a master’s social work student doing her field work at the UT Austin School of Law’s Children’s Rights Clinic. In this internship, she works along law students who represent children in Travis County District Court as student attorneys ad litem in cases where the state seeks custody or termination of parental rights based on allegations of abuse and neglect. Mollie Stemper is a social worker and the clinical instructor at the UT Austin School of Law’s Capital Punishment Clinic. We talked with both about the mutual benefits of social workers and lawyers working together on behalf of clients.
