Who: Kendra Rice, MSSW ’19
What and Where: Hired as behavioral health counselor at Insight Behavioral Health Centers in Round Rock, which serves adolescents and adults who struggle with mood and anxiety disorders.
How: Rice quickly learned that she was drawn to clinical social work and was thrilled to get her final field placement at Insight Behavioral Health, where she provided individual, group, and family therapy to teens and their families.
“Through consulting with supervisors, practice, and stumbling through sessions with patients, I’ve definitely increased my confidence when working with patients and their families — even when working with groups, which I was really nervous about at first,” Rice said.
When Rice saw the position open, applying for it was a “no-brainer,” she said. She will be facilitating therapy groups and supporting patients through daily programming, meal times, and experiential therapeutic activities.
The future: Rice hopes to keep learning from colleagues and patients. She wants to learn to better navigate difficult family dynamics with clients and become more confident in her professional use of self in the therapy room. Rice said she would love to explore options in the future involving individual and family therapy with the adolescent population, and hopes to keep caring for herself and manage burn out as best as possible.
