Noël Busch-Armendariz, Ph.D., LMSW, MPA, and co-authors Maura Nsonwu, Ph.D., MSW, LCSW, professor, North Carolina State University School of Social Work and Laurie Cook Heffron, (Ph.D. ’15), (LMSW ’02), associate professor and social work program director at St. Edward’s University School of Behavioral and Social Sciences, have been recognized with a Textbook Excellence Award by the Textbook & Academic Authors Association for “Human Trafficking: Applying Research, Theory, and Case Studies for Social Workers and the Helping Professions.”

 The second edition builds on their first book, “Human Trafficking: Applying Research, Theory, and Case Studies for Criminal Justice, Law, and Policymakers” (winner of the 2019 Robert W. Hamilton Book Award – Textbook) to prepare future social workers to confront human trafficking with both compassion and evidence-based interventions across micro, mezzo and macro practice.

“Receiving the Textbook Excellence Award affirms our commitment to equipping social workers with the most current knowledge on human trafficking,” said Dr. Busch-Armendariz, who also serves Texas Social Work as a University Presidential Professor and the associate dean for global engagement.

Dr. Busch-Armendariz is well-published, and her colleagues and students have recognized her contributions with distinguished accolades. Her textbook “Human Trafficking: Applying Research, Theory, and Case Studies for Social Work and Helping Professionals” won the prestigious Hamilton Book Award in 2018.
