Sharon Lee is a research associate with the Texas Institute for Excellence in Mental Health in the Steve Hicks School of Social Work. She received her MSSW and PhD from The University of Texas at Austin. Her career interests lie in reducing the burden of mental health and substance use, and her research interests have been centered around mental health prevention/promotion, prevention of adverse health behaviors (i.e., alcohol use and drug use/abuse), and co-occurring disorders. Most of Sharon’s work in clinical social work practice has involved coordinating with an interdisciplinary team including physicians, nurses, psychologists, and teachers to provide acute mental health care, and providing individual, family, and group therapy for children and adolescents in inpatient psychiatric hospital settings. Sharon also has experience with school social work (AmeriCorps-Communities in Schools) and international social work (World Health Organization). During her free time, Sharon enjoys exploring new restaurants with her husband as well hiking and tending to their garden.
