Rachel Holliman received her Master of Science in Social Work from the Steve Hicks School of Social Work at The University of Texas at Austin in 2016 and then started her career at Dell Seton Medical Center as medical social worker. During her time at Dell Seton, Holliman also served as the Buprenorphine Team (or “B-Team”) social worker. The B-Team is a multidisciplinary team that conducts assessments on patients with opioid use disorder in efforts to connect them with medication-assisted treatment and recovery resources. In April 2022, the B-Team received the Society of Hospital Medicine Excellence in Teamwork award.
Holliman continued her work at Dell Seton when she was promoted to a lead social worker position that assisted with discharge planning for medically and socially complex patients in conjunction with the floor staff case management team and physicians. Holliman looks forward to being part of a wonderful team at Dell Medical School and UT Health Austin and working with her colleagues at Dell Seton to enhance patients’ overall well-being and road to recovery. In her role, Holliman delivers care to hospitalized patients who are identified as having alcohol use disorder or other substance use disorders — a group that comprises a diverse, vulnerable and underserved patient population.
Holliman conducts motivational interviewing and behavioral counseling with patients; educates patients on various treatment options and addresses barriers; determines and makes appropriate referrals to community-based resources and outpatient treatment centers, and coordinates assessment and treatment plans with a multidisciplinary medical team.
