J.D. Moore is the Director of Marketing & Communications for the Steve Hicks School of Social Work, where he oversees the internal and external marketing efforts for SHS. He serves as the first point of contact for the press, manages special projects such as The Utopian magazine and Discourse podcast, and plans and executes strategy for events and reputation management efforts.
Prior to his work at the University of Texas at Austin, J.D. served as a marketing manager for the Greater San Marcos Partnership, a national leader in economic development. He also previously served as a journalist for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, WFAA, the Kerrville Daily Times, and Sirius XM, among others.
J.D. is proud to be a first-generation college graduate and first male in his family tree to earn a university degree, earning his bachelor’s in journalism from TCU and his master’s in public administration from Texas State University.
Born and raised in Hawaii, J.D. became a converted Texan in 2008, where he later married his college sweetheart (a fourth generation Texan) and began raising their fifth generation Texan in Austin. J.D. is both an avid traveler and college football expert, having traveled extensively to all 50 states and attending hundreds of college football games as credentialed media. When not in the office, he is likely training for a half marathon, shredding some heavy metal rock n’ roll on one of his electric guitars, or fruitlessly attempting to improve his golf swing.
