Andy Langer is the Co-Director of the Arts & Humanities wing of the Moritz Center for Societal Impact at The University of Texas at Austin School of Social Work. His work focuses on building partnerships and programs that connect the university with the broader Austin community through music, culture, storytelling, and live events.
Before joining the Moritz Center, Langer served in University Events and Experiences as UT Austin’s first Senior Director of Live Music & Entertainment. In that role, he worked across the university to develop live music and entertainment programming, create professional opportunities for students, strengthen connections between UT and Austin’s music community, oversee the university’s Songwriter in Residence program, and help guide the revitalization of the Cactus Cafe.
Langer is also a longtime journalist, broadcaster, moderator, emcee, and podcaster. He has been a Writer at Large at Texas Monthly, where he has covered music since 1997 and hosted The National Podcast of Texas. From 2002 to 2016, he was a contributing editor and music columnist at Esquire, and for 22 years he was an on-air host at Austin’s KGSR, later known as Austin City Limits Radio. His writing has also appeared in Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, Billboard, Bon Appétit, and Southern Living.
Langer is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin’s School of Journalism, where he began his career at The Daily Texan.
