Andrea Tamez supports the BSW program at the Steve Hicks School of Social Work as the Senior Academic Advisor. Her role assists in student academic advising, recruitment efforts management and enhancing program support.  Andrea received her Bachelor of Arts in Global Studies and Environmental Science & Policy at St. Edwards University here in Austin. She completed her Master of Arts in Peace and Development Studies from the Politics and International Relations department at Leeds Beckett University in the UK.

Her course and research focused on addressing global challenges of poverty and violence by linking theory and practice and making a positive difference to the lives of people around the world – through diving deeper into the relationships between peace, conflict resolution and development both nationally and internationally. After graduating with her masters, she stayed in London for several years working as an Academic Program Manager.

As an advisor, Andrea aims to be a resource and support system for undergraduate students pursuing social work, fostering their academic success and personal growth. She works towards providing comprehensive guidance, motivation, and resources tailored to each student’s needs, ensuring they navigate their academic journey with confidence and achieve their aspirations in the field of social work. Through personalized mentorship and assistance, Andrea strives to empower students to overcome challenges, stay motivated, and reach their fullest potential as future social workers.
