Diana DiNitto, the Cullen Trust Centennial Professor in Alcohol Studies and Education at the Steve Hicks School of Social Work, is the recipient of the 2019 GADE Donna Harrington Award for Excellence in Mentoring. This awards recognizes extraordinary and sustained contributions to the scholarly development of social work doctoral students.

DiNitto’s research and teaching interests are in social welfare policy, alcohol and drug problems, and violence against women. Her books include Social Welfare: Politics and Public Policy (8th ed.), Essentials of Social Welfare: Politics and Public Policy, Chemical Dependency: A Systems Approach (4rd ed.), and Social Work: Issues and Opportunities in a Challenging Profession (3rd ed). She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare, a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Social Welfare Policy and Practice Group, a recipient of the Lora Lee Pederson Teaching Excellence Award, and has twice received a Texas Excellence Teaching Award.
