Alicia Garcés, director of social work training at The University of Texas at Austin’s Counseling and Mental health Center, is the recipient of the 2014 Field Instructor of the Year Award.
“Alicia Garcés is a dedicated social worker and field instructor. Under her tutelage, our students grow and gain tremendous confidence as budding clinical social workers and as interdisciplinary practitioners. She has mastered the art of educational supervision and has found the exact balance between challenging and supporting our students. We are fortunate to have her on our team,” said Tanya Voss, assistant dean for field education at the School of Social Work.
Field instructors provide administrative and educational supervision for social work students during their internships in social service agencies and other institutions in the community. Every year, the School of Social Work recognizes outstanding field instruction and long-term commitment to social work eduction with the Field Instructor of the Year Award. The recognition comes with a stipend supported by the Jane Addams Field Education Development Endowment.
