Alexis George, undergraduate program coordinator at the Steve Hicks School of Social Work, has received the 2018 James W. Vick Award for Academic Advising.
This award is given each year by the Texas Exes to recognize “individuals who improve students’ overall experience at The University of Texas at Austin through outstanding advising.” Recipients are nominated and selected by students.
“Alexis brings extraordinary gifts and graces to our school, and it’s a joy to see her excellent work and commitment to our students being recognized by the larger UT community,” said Allan Cole, senior associate dean for academic affairs.
George received her B.A. in psychology from The University of Texas at Austin, where she was a resident assistant, orientation advisor, and played an active role in a variety of student initiatives and activities. After receiving her M.S.Ed. in Higher Education, Alexis spent time in London, England interning with IES Abroad before making her way back to UT Austin. She is the primary academic advisor and program coordinator for undergraduate students at the Steve Hicks School of Social Work, and is their first point of contact. Alexis is the liaison for new students and transfer orientations, course scheduling and registration, academic planning, and many undergraduate social work activities.
