As we prepare to move to our new home at the center of campus, into what is currently the McCombs School of Business building located on Speedway, our official name will become The University of Texas at Austin School of Social Work, or, more commonly, UT Social Work.
The decision to change our name grows out of our longstanding partnership with Steve Hicks, one of our school’s most transformational benefactors. Steve imagines a future for UT Social Work enriched by additional champions who support our mission. As Steve said to me, “It will be great for others to have the opportunity I have had to support such important work being done by exceptional people in the School of Social Work.”
We will continue to honor Steve’s legacy of generosity. In providing scholarships, a professorship, faculty resources, and programmatic support, Steve will continue to help advance our mission and change lives.
Our new building will include Hicks Hall and other physical spaces and artifacts that recognize Steve’s many contributions to our school and express proper gratitude for them.
More details will be forthcoming. In the meantime, please join me in a posture of gratitude for what we have been given, and in excitement for what lies ahead for UT Social Work.
