Jessica Shahin served as the senior career executive for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as food stamps) from 2004 to 2022. As Associate Administrator for SNAP, she led a team in the administration and oversight of the largest national feeding program in the country, providing access to food and a more healthful diet. Before starting her federal service with USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service, Shahin was Director of Interagency Policy at the Texas Department of Human Services where she developed an expertise for effective integration of various health and human service programs in both the policy and management areas. Shahin received her Masters in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin and taught public policy as an adjunct professor at the school. She is retired and lives with her husband in Washington, DC.
