AUSTIN, Texas—Texas System of Care, the Texas Institute for Excellence in Mental Health at the Steve Hicks School of Social Work, and the Texas Health and Human Services Commission are collaborating to sponsor the annual Texas Mental Health Awareness Creative Arts Contest. The contest is currently open for entries and will run until March 1, 2021.
The theme of the contest is “Why Does Mental Health Matter To You?” in an effort to raise awareness of mental health challenges, which can be challenging to discuss. Adults and school-age children have the opportunity to answer the prompt by submitting original work in one of three categories: Original Art, Photography, and Writing.
“The contest has grown over the years in participation and we are excited to see the creativity that will come from the experiences of 2020,” says Texas Institute for Excellence in Mental Health Director, Dr. Molly Lopez. “Texans are extremely creative and the artwork and writing have such powerful messages.”
Texans of all ages are encouraged to submit their work in their respective age groups, which are elementary, middle-school, high-school and adult. Winners in each category will receive special recognition and prizes. Winning submissions will also be published on the official contest website.
The contest is now accepting submissions until March 1, 2021.
