The School of Social Work is hosting the 2014 Austin/Travis County Annual Point in time Homeless Count, which is organized by a coalition of local organizations called ECHO (Ending Community Homelessness Coalition).
On January 24th and 25th, teams of volunteers will be canvassing Travis County to count homeless men, women and children on the streets, under highway bridges and in camps. ECHO will provide awareness training and assign volunteers to areas they know well if possible. All teams will receive maps, clipboards, pens, flashlights, and all necessary forms. Volunteers must attend a 2-hour training session, see dates and details here.
Register here for the training session of your choice and for one of the 4-hour count shifts.
This count is a vital component in ensuring the well-being of Austin area’s homeless population and in securing the greatest level of funding the federal government will allot Travis County’s homeless service providers.
