Elisa Borah was in Good Day Austin speaking about a new program that provides free treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to Central Texas couples where at least one members is a veteran suffering from PTSD. See the full interview here.

The program, called Veteran Couples Connect, is an initiative from the Institute for Military & Veteran Family Wellness, a joint effort of the Steve Hicks School of Social Work and the Dell Medical School Department of Psychiatry.

Veteran Couples Connect provides cognitive behavioral conjoint therapy to couples in a group setting, with five couples in each cohort. Throughout  eight weeks, couples will receive in-person group treatment from licensed clinicians, with information about treatment, safety building, and psycho-education about trauma and PTSD.

At the end of the program, couples will receive vouchers for a date-night experience to celebrate their hard work, as well as a weekend getaway with other veteran couples. Program staff will evaluate the program to assess the intervention’s effectiveness and to improve programming for veteran couples in future cohorts.
