The Roving Social Worker: Travel Social Work in the US Join us for Impact Hour, Thursday October 29th at 1 pm CST! Join us for this week’s Impact Hour, The Roving Social Worker: Travel Social Work in the US, featuring J. “Jay” Lawrence Dixon, DSW-candidate, MSW (They/Them). At this week’s Impact Hour our host will discuss their life as travel social worker and share their observations of the consistent themes in social work practice across multiple contexts. They will also discuss licensure and practice expectations in various jurisdictions and share their perspective on the intersection between social justice and cultural awareness. J is a travelling Social Worker (TSW) with over 12-years of experience and manages the popular @travel_msw Instagram platform. J (the Roving Social Worker) Lawrence Dixon, MSW, DSW candidate, LCSW candidate, LAC candidate is a travelling Social Worker (TSW) in the United States. They blend micro, mezzo, and macro levels skills at each assignment site to meet the needs of the community. J’s 12-year social service work includes grant writing, project and department management, crisis response, FD social work, inpatient and outpatient behavioral health as well as working in medical, home health, and long-term care settings. J maintains active social media accounts on twitter and IG (@travel_msw), has written for the New Social Worker, and occasionally records 5-10-minute stories for their punk rock style podcast, The Roving Social Worker. J and their family live in the third most rural town in the United States while J completes a Tribal contract as a TSW-therapist. When not working J enjoys traveling, hiking, arguing about coffee choices with colleagues, and continuing to learn.
