Social workers are change agents. Whether on the micro or the macro level, they spend their careers working to make their communities stronger, safer, and more equitable. For Noelita Lugo, UT alum and current AISD school board candidate, this has meant working within public policy systems and ultimately running for office herself.  Lugo spent twenty years working on child support programs in the Texas Attorney General’s office. Currently, she is running for a position on the AISD school board as a Trustee-At-Large. For this week’s Impact Hour, join UT Steve Hicks School of Social Work alum, Noelita Lugo, to learn more about her path to run for public office and the intersections between social work, advocacy, and public policy.

  1. Explore the intersection between advocacy and social work
  2. Gain insights about the world of public policy and discuss how social workers can play a role in policy formation
  3.   Learn more about upcoming local elections and discuss ways for students to become more involved in civic engagement
