Rose Lewis, LMSW, is a Senior Designer at Harbor Health, a multi-specialty care clinic group in Austin, TX. She is a member of the Product team and primarily focuses on service and experience design initiatives in the context of primary care workflows, processes, and tools. As a social worker and designer, Rose approaches her work through an empathic, compassionate and strengths-based lens. She seeks to identify and understand system failures and strengths at the micro, mezzo and macro levels. Rose believes in meeting people where they are at, leveraging relationships to be the cornerstone for change, and co-creating and co-designing solutions in partnership with those we serve.
Prior to joining Harbor Health, she was a Social Service Designer at the Design Institute for Health, a radical collaboration between The College of Fine Arts and The Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin. During her 3+ years at the Design Institute, she worked on various design research, service design, system design, and organization design projects focused on health and health-adjacent efforts both in the community and in healthcare settings.
Before she joined the world of design, Rose worked in various public sector and social service roles. She was a Teach for America Corps member and 5th grade teacher in Houston for three years, which led her to pursue a master’s degree in social work. During her graduate studies, she interned and worked with the team at Child Protective Services Reintegration Unit housed in the Travis County Health and Human Services Office of Children Services implementing wraparound services for high-need kids in the area. Rose also worked in Texas Senator Zaffirini’s office where she fielded constituent communication and assisted on policy for the upcoming legislative session. Lastly, she interned on the mitigation team at Texas Defender Service, working on both pre-trial and post-conviction capital cases.
In her free time, she likes to play with her goldendoodle, Tater, travel with friends and family, and try new sports, currently on a golf kick!
