Suze L. Miller, LMSW is a Lecturer in the Graduate School of Social Work at the University of Texas at Austin. She has a master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington and a bachelor’s degree in Christian Education from Westminster College in Pennsylvania. Ms. Miller has been involved in the development and administration of non-profit organizations since the early eighties. She has served as the Executive Director for small and large agencies in the field of developmental disabilities and end-of-life care in the Dallas and Austin areas.
Ms. Miller has a particularly strong interest in public policy initiatives, especially as they relate to older Americans, effective pain management, and health care. Ms. Miller has served as the Executive Director of the Texas Partnership for End-of-Life Care, a statewide initiative to improve the care of the dying, and as the President and CEO of Bethphage Mission South, Inc., a tri-state nonprofit dedicated to developing small community living settings for persons with developmental disabilities, and in several leadership positions in a variety of nonprofit organizations. In the last decade she has worked directly with organizations related to health care including an inpatient hospital, rehabilitation hospital, and large public emergency room.
Suze has been personally involved as a volunteer in the field of end-of-life care and hospice, and more recently with the Arthritis Foundation, honoring her mother who suffered from various forms of arthritis for 50 of her 80 years.
Ms Miller has now embarked in a new professional career as a Seniors Real Estate Specialist, utilizing her skills as a social worker to specialize in assisting older citizens and their families to transition more easily into senior and assisted living settings.
A Lecturer at UT since 2005, Ms. Miller has taught the following Graduate level courses: Social Work in Health Care, Crisis Intervention, Grief and Loss, Public Policy and Social Policy Analysis, Nonprofit Management in Human Services, Human Behavior in the Social Environment, and the spring Senior Capstone courses.
