John Luk, M.D., is an assistant professor of medicine with the Dell Medical School and a clinical assistant professor with the Steve Hicks School of Social Work. Since 2001, he has practiced as a pediatric hospitalist at the Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas where he served as the elected chief of staff from 2013-2014. Dr. Luk is also a clinical associate professor and Distinguished Teaching Professor with UTMB School of Medicine. He also served as the UTMB Austin Pediatric Clerkship Director and presently oversees the regional clinical campus for UTMB as the assistant dean for regional medical education. Together with social work professor Barbara Jones, Ph.D., he facilitates an interprofessional course for students in medicine, social work, nursing, and pharmacy. He also serves on the Professional Identity Formation Task Force of the University of Texas System Transformation In Medical Education Initiative. He has developed premedical clinical curricular experiences as part of this initiative for undergraduate students at UT Austin. Dr. Luk also serves as a faculty member with the Leadership Education And Development Certificate Program of the Association of American Medical Colleges. For the Dell Medical School, Dr. Luk will be working on its interprofessional integration curriculum and medical student skills development in its academies.
