Director of Student and Community Affairs
Ramón Gómez is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and his Master of Science in Social Work degree. As the primary liaison between the Steve Hicks School of Social Work and prospective students, Ramón is responsible for recruitment, outreach activities, and event coordination related to those efforts. He oversees the Dean’s Ambassadors for Social Work Program as well as the St. David’s Foundation Bilingual Social Work Scholars program. In addition, Ramón also works closely with the Office of Field Education facilitating connections with agencies seeking social work student interns.
Ramón is an active participant in the MSSW Committee, Community Partnership Development Committee, International Committee and the Committee on Diversity and Inclusion. Prior to joining the Steve Hicks School of Social Work, he worked at a at a family-strengthening agency based in Austin as director of Texas-Mexico border initiatives, overseeing programs from El Paso to Brownsville. Ramón advanced the initiatives of the agency by opening up regional offices in El Paso, Eagle Pass, and Rio Grande City and was responsible for hiring, and training the staff. He also worked with the Austin Independent School District for a college readiness program doing outreach and recruitment of underrepresented groups in higher education including first generation college goers and their families. Ramón is originally from Canutillo, TX (El Paso area) and is very proud to be a Texas Longhorn!
