M. Andrea Campetella, Ph.D.

Director of Communications and Planning

M. Andrea Campetella is the Director of Communications and Planning at the School of Social Work at The University of Texas at Austin.  In that capacity, Dr. Campetella oversees communications between the School of Social Work and various constituencies, including alumni, students, donors, and the general public. Dr. Campetella also assists the Dean in planning and implementing initiatives at the local, national, and international levels.

Dr. Campetella holds an M.A. in Sociology and a Ph.D. in Latin American history.  She started her doctoral career teaching and conducting research about Latin America to then shift towards program development and communications.  Prior to moving to Austin, she was the Acting Director of the Center for Latino Family Research at the Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis.  At the Center, Dr. Campetella oversaw the implementation of federally funded research projects about Latinos in the United States, expanded the Center’s outreach into the local community, and was in charge of communications.

Before coming to the United States to pursue graduate studies, Dr. Campetella received a B.A. in Sociology from the National University of Buenos Aires, in her native country of Argentina.  She also worked at the Center for the Study of State and Society (CEDES), a research center focusing on social and economic development, human rights and democracy, and social and gender equality in Latin America.
