Celebrating 2014 Fall Graduates

Fall 2014 graduationThe School of Social Work fall 2014 convocation ceremony took place in the LBJ School Auditorium this past Saturday, December 6.

All but five of the 47 candidates for degrees in social work were from the bachelor of social work program. There was one candidate from the PhD program, and four candidates from the master’s program.

The convocation speaker was Meghan Graham, a member of the BSW graduating class, chosen by her peers. Graham, the first in her family to graduate from college, was a 2013 Kuhn Scholar and DDCE Intellectual Entrepreneurship Pre-Grad Intern (watch a video of Graham talking about her IE internship here.)

“Keep doing what you’re doing and together we can embody the motto of our Alma Mater, What starts here changes the world!  I truly believe in that mantra and truly believe anything is possible – with me standing here today as a testament to that.  From living in Section 8 housing to now providing services to families living in poverty, I’ve come full circle and don’t intend to stop any time soon.  Now let’s get out there and make the world a better place! HOOK ‘EM!!,” Graham said to her graduating cohort. (Read the full speech here, PDF).
