Adjunct Assistant Professor
Laura is originally from Melbourne, Florida. She completed her Master’s degree in Education in 1983 and received her LCDC (Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor) in 1989. She spent 13 years teaching and counseling with the Department of Exercise Science and the Center for the Study of Addiction and Recovery at Texas Tech University. She moved to Austin in 1999 where she founded the University of Texas Center for Students in Recovery and taught as an adjunct faculty member in the School of Social Work. Currently, Laura is in private practice, she continues to teach in the School of Social Work and works with the UT College of Natural Sciences as a field supervisor.
Laura’s Specializations are in Substance abuse disorders including assessment, diagnosis, and ongoing counseling. She has extensive experience in relapse prevention, working with families, ACOA (Adult Children of Addiction), Al-Anon, and the12-step recovery model. Laura also has additional training and expertise in mindfulness living, spirituality, wellness and the recovery process as it relates to all aspects of daily living.
