MSSW student Lindsey Peters is the recipient the 2013 Austin Social Work Alumni Network (SWAN) scholarship.

Lindsey is a first year student focusing on the clinical concentration. She is currently taking foundational social work courses while serving as an intern and Americorps member at American YouthWorks, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the empowerment of at-risk young adults through education, service, and green jobs training. Lindsey also works in the School of Social Work as a Teaching Assistant for Adjunct Faculty under Dr. Ruth Fagan-Wilen.

Last May, Lindsey graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Bachelor of Art in English at Loyola University Chicago. Lindsey’s dedication to erasing the stigma of mental illness and increasing the dialogue surrounding issues of mental health motivated her to found a chapter of Active Minds on her undergraduate campus. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, listening to live music, and discovering local restaurants in Austin.

Each March, during National Social Work Month, SWAN sponsors an Honor a Social Worker tribute gift initiative. All proceeds go to support the SWAN student scholarship, which is awarded annually to a deserving social work student.
