The Arc of Texas Board of Directors has selected Amy Mizcles, LMSW, to serve as executive director effective April 1, 2013. Ms. Mizcles has served as interim director since August 2012. She joined The Arc staff in 2001, advancing to the position of director of governmental affairs in 2005.

“Amy is a passionate advocate and a proven leader in the legislative arena,” says Carol Maxwell, president of The Arc of Texas Board of Directors. “She is enthusiastic about The Arc’s staff and has a deep commitment to the organization’s local chapters and membership. We are confident that The Arc of Texas is prepared to address the challenges that face Texans with intellectual and developmental disabilities, their families and friends under her leadership.”

I have a high regard and great enthusiasm for The Arc staff, volunteers, and chapters and look forward to working with all to advance our cause.”

Ms. Mizcles earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Environmental Studies from Baylor University in 1997. She received a Master of Science in Social Work in Community and Administrative Leadership from the University of Texas at Austin in 2000. She received a Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership and Management from the Austin Community College Center for Community-Based and Nonprofit Centers in 2012.

As a member of numerous state agency and advocacy organization committees and work groups over the years, Ms. Mizcles has contributed leadership to a variety of efforts. Most recently, she was selected to participate in the Emerging Leaders Program at the Bush School of Government and Public Service. In February, she was selected to serve on The Arc US National Conference of Executives Steering Committee.
